VP of Sales Job Description Template

A VP of Sales leads the revenue function, building and scaling the sales organisation to hit aggressive growth targets. They set GTM strategy, hire and develop a world-class sales team, and are ultimately accountable for bookings, revenue, and net revenue retention.

Responsibilities

  • Own and exceed the annual bookings and revenue targets
  • Hire, coach, and develop a team of AEs, SDRs, and sales managers
  • Define and iterate the GTM strategy: segmentation, ICP, motion, pricing
  • Build accurate pipeline and forecast models in partnership with RevOps
  • Partner with marketing on demand generation and pipeline velocity

Requirements

  • 7+ years of B2B SaaS sales experience with 3+ years in sales leadership
  • Demonstrated track record of scaling revenue from $X to $Y
  • Experience building and managing teams of 10+ quota-carrying reps
  • Strong command of sales forecasting, pipeline management, and revenue operations
  • Excellent executive communication and board-level presentation skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience taking a company from $5M to $30M+ ARR
  • Background in PLG-to-sales-assisted motion transitions
  • Prior experience in HR tech, workforce management, or adjacent SaaS
